Walk, Ride, Bike, or Drive

TwentyTwenty is intentionally located within walking distance of all the essentials. When you want to venture further, we made sure to provide conscious options. We have…

  • walkability to restaurants, coffee, brewpubs, grocery, banks, essential services, entertainment, farmers’ markets, and public transportation 
  • adjacent bicycle lanes along with NE Multnomah and NE 21st streets
  • bike storage racks for residents and a bike lounge with bike wash and DIY repair station
  • bus route 70 stopping just steps outside your door, and convenient access to routes 8, 17 and 77 for travel in all directions

Green Space and Site-Specific Design

We know a building doesn’t exist in a vacuum. It needs to integrate into the complex community ecosystem that surrounds it. To do this, we made sure to choose materials that…

  • are beautiful and durable, yet low-maintenance 
  • complement the materials of neighboring historic properties
  • celebrate the surroundings, drawing design inspiration from the geological forces that created Sullivan’s Gulch, Alameda Ridge, Rocky Butte, and the Columbia River Gorge

And sometimes, the best part of a home is not just inside the walls. To foster a connection to nature, we included… 

  • a west-facing courtyard landscaped with trees, shrubs, and a host of green plants
  • a zen courtyard designed as a tribute to the local geology and the trees brought to the Pacific Northwest by the Missoula Floods
  • new trees planted all around the building
  • an efficient drip irrigation system to reduce water usage
  • northwest native plants, such as vine maple trees, sword ferns, fringe cup flowers, wild strawberries, Oregon ash, and Pacific wax myrtle. Native plantings are non-invasive and have less need for fertilizers or pesticides

The courtyard and surrounding landscaping provide valuable stormwater management as well. These plantings slow and filter water runoff before it enters the city’s storm water system, helping to mitigate storm water runoff which can pick up and carry pollutants into our local streams and rivers.

Energy & Water Efficiency

TwentyTwenty designed systems and selected fixtures that use less energy and less water. This translates to lower bills, and lower impact. We did this with… 

  • energy star appliances
  • energy efficient LED lighting throughout
  • hallways accented with natural daylighting 
  • energy efficient, weather-sealed, and sound-controlled advanced window systems
  • low-flow plumbing fixtures, including a shower head that uses 30% less water but has pressure compensating technology to help still provide a great shower
  • full-size, water-saving washing machines with multiple settings
  • exceptionally energy efficient heating, cooling, and ventilation systems

Thoughtful Finishes, Resourceful Materials

Good design is in the details. At TwentyTwenty we used…

  • engineered hardwood flooring FloorScore-certified for indoor air quality, made with renewable materials and factory-certified by the Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC)
  • carpet in the bedrooms that is low-VOC, and CRI Green Label Plus certified
  • tile flooring in the bathrooms containing recycled content, and low-VOC
  • quartz countertops that are durable, low-VOC, and easy to clean. They don’t require sealing, re-polishing, or reconditioning, and their surfaces are more impervious to bacteria and other microorganisms than many other types of countertops
  • cumaru wood slats and accents. Cumaru is a strong, dense wood, and its natural durability eliminates the need to be pressure-treated with toxins and chemicals used in some other wood products. The cumaru at TwentyTwenty is FSC-certified
  • formaldehyde-free wall insulation using 40% post-consumer recycled glass, and drywall containing recycled gypsum
  • a construction waste-reduction plan, where more than 75% of construction waste was diverted from landfills
  • local or regional materials when possible, including numerous wood products, aggregate for concrete, and cabinets – supporting the local economy and reducing climate impacts associated with excessive transportation

Fresh Air

When you enter TwentyTwenty, breathe deep. You’ll smell clean, fresh air. That’s because we…

  • chose paints and coatings with low-VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) emissions, and chose low-VOC finish materials. Hard surface floors and carpets have been third party-verified to have lower content of harmful chemicals than conventional products
  • vented kitchen exhaust fans directly outdoors 
  • ducted each bathroom to a high efficiency, energy star rated, rooftop fan that continuously exhausts your home
  • included natural ventilation options through operable windows that tilt open, and trickle vents that are a dedicated source of fresh air
  • equipped the parking garage with an on-demand system that senses pollutant levels and signals the fans when excess exhaust is detected
  • are a 100% non-smoking building
